Katie Elliott

Founder member of the groove project is jazz flautist and composer Katie Elliott.

Katie

An experienced workshop leader who trained with the Children's Music Workshop in London under the guidance of Leonora Davies MBE (chair of the Music Education Committee) and leading creative music educationalist Paul Griffiths, Katie has been involved in a variety of educational projects over recent years. These include the SPNM's Sound Inventors scheme, NMEC's "Voices of Promise" Millenium songwriting competition, jazz and world music projects in Hackney primary schools for CMW and many years of instrumental music teaching.

She is the author of the bestselling music theory course Theory Fun Factory published by Boosey & Hawkes, as well as a number of titles for Usborne Publishing, such as The Usborne Book of Easy Flute Tunes.

Katie also has considerable experience of music outreach work and has led interactive concerts in a variety of settings as part of Yehudi Menuhin's Live Music Now scheme for young musicians. These include extensive work in residential and day-care centres for elderly dementia sufferers and adults with learning difficulties and performances in hospices, playgroups and schools.

Aside from all of this, she composes and arranges for her own jazz quintet, which last year played as part of the New Jazz in the Square series in Bristol, and has performed and recorded with a variety of jazz and latin bands across the country. As a pianist she is a member of Instant Wit and now also of the Under the Edge Jazz Club house trio!
